Teach First was launched in 2002 to bring excellent teachers into challenging secondary schools across the UK. As the company’s headquarters, the new office needed a look and location to reflect the organisation as a whole. It therefore chose ‘More London’, a vibrant new business community, located adjacent to Tower Bridge.
Representatives from Teach First visited Interface’s state-of-the-art showroom in Clerkenwell, London, to find out more about its unrivalled sustainability credentials and worked with the Interface design team to create a bespoke flooring solution for the new office.
The flooring design needed to take into account the open plan layout of the work space and its high traffic usage. Three Interface products - Transformation, High Rise and Duet - were chosen to offer a practical, hard-wearing, yet high-design, solution, in a colour palette chosen to complement Teach First’s contemporary white office furniture.
Inspired by Biomimicry and the colours and patterns of nature, Transformation is a tufted patterned structured loop pile tile containing high percentage of recycled nylon. Transformation is manufactured using electricity from 100 per cent renewable sources and it comes with Interface’s Cool Carpet® guarantee, whereby all carbon emissions generated throughout the lifetime of the product are offset. Its random design is perfect for non-directional installation, increasing flexibility, minimising waste and simplifying maintenance.
The linear patterns of High Rise were selected to add a sleek, modern twist to the office design. This tufted patterned structured loop pile tile is available in 16 modern colour combinations and is inspired by the strongest emerging trends in interiors and architecture.
High Rise was complemented by the appealing textures of Duet. Available in 16 tonal colourways, this product brings an element of understated elegance to a flooring design, and has recently been subject to some price repositioning work so that clients working to tight budgets can still access products with exemplary sustainability credentials, high design content and uncompromising performance.
Both High Rise and Duet contain recycled materials in the yarn and the backing, and are produced using the latest sustainable manufacturing processes, reflecting the company’s dedication to manufacturing truly sustainable carpet tiles.
Gareth Williams, senior facilities officer at Teach First, says: “Our mission is to address educational disadvantage by transforming exceptional graduates into effective, inspirational teachers, so we needed an office that reflects the organisation’s ethos. The sophisticated, but understated design has cleverly incorporated colour and texture to define areas of the space, while keeping a constant theme throughout.”
